“Saintis Cilik” Research Program

Friday, 31 October 2014

In last October, collaboration between MRCPP and “Kuark” magazine created a special event called “Program Riset Saintis Cilik” (research program for little scientists). This program is intended to facilitate the children to learn about research and experiment on laboratory in fun and easy ways. The participants are the winners of Kuark Science Olympiad (Olimpiade Sains Kuark/ OSK) which consist of elementary school students in grades 3 through 6. On that day, seven OSK winners from Malang, Surabaya, Jember, Madiun, Jombang, Nganjuk, and Ponorogo came to MRCPP, accompanied by their parents and teachers. The children are invited to become "Saintis Cilik" (little scientists) and to know more about photosynthesis and pigment colors that we encounter every day in nature. During the event, the children followed an interactive presentation on Photosynthesis given by Tatas H.P. Brotosudarmo, Ph.D as Head of MRCPP, and then they conducted three experiments related to photosynthesis, accompanied by researchers of MRCPP. All participants seemed very enthusiastic in following this all day long activity. Beside the experiments, MRCPP also performed scientific exhibition, such as chlorophyll mask, electric car, and solar cell. After that, all participants were very excited to behave as the true scientist in front of cameras. Yea, we also have the photo contest! Finally, MRCPP gave the award of “Saintis Cilik Berbakat” (talented little scientist) in terms of liveliness and curiosity, won by Ali Zainal Abidin – student of SDN Jember Lor, as well as the photo competition, won by Muhammad Naufal Akbar – student of MIN Demangan Madiun.
